Canon batteries and after market batteries?

Hi does anybody have a preference. I heard that the after market ones can sometimes lead to problems with the camera and that the canon batteries, although expensive, last a little longer. anybody have any problems using the cheapo batteries off ebay?

thanks

I'm using aftermarket batteries with my T2i, and I love them. If they don't last as long I haven't noticed yet. Currently rocking two off brand batteries inside an aftermarket grip (with two more as a backup). Been shooting a lot of live events lately, and haven't had to change the batteries midshow yet! The cost to benefit ratio of buying the expensive OEM batteries isn't quite there for me.

$40 for an OEM Batt.
$5 for an aftermarket.

The performance I have gotten out of the cheapo batteries has been nothing less than adequate.

I prefer the canons. The aftermarket ones I use dont eject like the canons ones do. Makes it hard to get out of my battery grip.

i've been using chipped non-Canon batteries since last summer and not had a problem. one is a (presumably fake) Canon badged LP-E6 1800mAh from HKG, and two of them are generic, non-branded batteries rated at 2100mAh.
they charge on the Canon mains charger and give an accurate 'remaining power' display on the 5D mk2.

I recently bought "blumax" replacement battery but it only lasts half or 2/3(at best) time of genuine canon battery. I can say it also by much shorter time it needs to fully charge.

As an update to my posts, we're noticing the Maxtek batteries I have do not last as long as the Canon batteries in the 5DMKII.

The Energizer LPe6 replacement works fine in my experience though I haven't used it enough to confirm if it lasts as long.

i bought a few cheapos and they wont allow the camera to display the battery level. i would make the decsion depending on the size of your wallet and the importance of your shot

Chris, this is very odd, as in my book SWIT is the best 3d party battery manufacturer. It sounds like you got a lemon. In case you want to give SWIT another try and order here, I promise to make sure you are happy with it. If not, send it back, I will pay for shipping both ways.

I have just purchased 2 Phottix Titan batteries that appear to work just like the original ones.

OK, thanks! The batteries are on the way.
