Canon 7D with Vegas - workflow?

What is the recommended workflow for the 7D with Vegas?

Hoping someone can shed some light, since when I'm importing a lot of short clips into Vegas, it seems to freeze. I'm working on a small project of 68 clips at the moment and need to get this up and running pronto.

There is a thread on this here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=207075 - but I'm hoping will get some better responses here from the Vegas forum!

Thanks

So I was about to buy NeoScene when I noticed MPEG Stream Clip is free. I tried stream clip out, but don't like the gamma shift it does. I then noticed PRISM converter is free. I tried that out with the Lagarith Lossless Codec but playback is jittery.

Still looking for advice. I've google searched and searched the forums, but there don't seem to be any definitive answers yet..

Matt,

I use Cineform Neoscene.
I create a file on my desktop and name it TEMP AVI.
Open Neoscene
go to preferences and send output files to TEMP AVI folder.
Select the folder with all your 7D clips and hit start.

The transcoded files will be in the TEMP AVI folder and I drag them directly to my Vegas timeline. Once project is complete and I don't need the large AVI files any longer, I delete the TEMP AVI folder and keep the original smaller compressed .mov files.

hope this helps,
Doug

I purchased EPIC I from DVFilm.com and it's working like a charm. I have a quite old computer but all files play back in perfect real time. Neoscene didn't do the job for me.

Jamie, that is a good question.
I originally used the native (raw) files from the 7D and found that once your project gets to be 5-10 minutes long, Vegas really starts to have problems previewing and rendering the native .mov files.
If you want to use the native files for a one to two minute project, you will probably be o.k.
I would much prefer to use the files directly from the camera but once you get the work flow down, it is really just a little extra time and work to transcode. I have found the transcoded files preview and render with few issues.
Hope this helps,
Doug

thanks doug and david. that cleared things up for me. i also hear a lot of people say editing these dslr video files on a PC is a bit tougher than editing them on a mac.
