I think so, he is enthralled by the 7ds 50p/60p, hmm Philip you know the GH1 has this too since introduction, or has Pana's bill been settled now? Seems mega biased and for the pro-user only, zacuto's required to hold it still/z-finder to see what the heck your doing and a bunch of lenses none of which have any af. And its bigger than a 5d, you'd look great turning up to a family event with that to take a few snaps and a bit of video of your son/daughter.

7d, get real, Pull the other one its got bells on.

Are you being serious, or are you just joking?

Why can't he honestly find a lot to like about a new camera? He's testing it and reporting on it for everyone's sake. That's why he's focused on it now.

Seems mega biased
You seem "mega biased."

and for the pro-user only, zacuto's required to hold it still/z-finder to see what the heck your doing
Did he say that those fancy accessories are required to make it usable? He just happens to have that gear, and he happens to enjoy using it with the camera. It would be the same if he were shooting with the 5D or the GH1, which he also owns. As I recall, he was pimping the Genus Mattebox for the GH1, and loved to use expensive PL lenses (with a pricey PL adapter) on it too.

and a bunch of lenses none of which have any af.
Only the GH1's kit lens offers good AF. Most lenses that most GH1 users are using anyway can't be used in AF.

And its bigger than a 5d, you'd look great turning up to a family event with that to take a few snaps and a bit of video of your son/daughter.
The dimensions are actually smaller than a 5D. But the weight is slightly greater.

7d, get real, Pull the other one its got bells on.
WTF?

From Philip's own blog: read into what you will but without a z-finder and a zacuto or similar the 7d is impossible to handle. As we all know you can put the evf directly to your ey on the GH1, that is a serious advantage to any film-maker. With the legacy glass available for the GH1, am sure he could make it perform better than a 7d, he just dont wnat too, I wonder why?

""I think I may have mentioned the 7d more in this post

The Zacuto rig and Zacuto Z-Finder honestly were bloody essential on this shoot. COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THEM… If I like something as much as like both the 7d and the Zacuto rig then I will shout to the rooftops about it. I think I mentioned Zacuto more when I did a review of the Zacuto Z-FInder…But I think I need to get a commission from Zacuto for mentioning Zacuto so often. How about it Zacuto?!?

But joking aside. I ONLY rave about stuff I genuinely love, and I love their gear for the 5d and 7d. Hence my mentioning the Z word a lot.""

Just want people to be fully informed of the total adavantage of the GH1 over the over-priced 7d, that's all. I am not biased, if I was I would of published my comments on a Canon forum, as it is I've kept it to the GH1 forum!. We all wish for higher but rate of the Canon, but to be honest, that's its only advantage, after that the useability of the GH1 shines through, at least for us not prepared to spend more than the camera on a camera steady device.

The guy is reviewing and testing the camera with a set up that works well for him and subsequently many others get benefit from this. I don't see that there is anything wrong with that? He's already done a lot of this with the GH1 and along with a few other early owners tests, has helped users to hit the ground running with their cameras.

Nothing wrong at all, but I am a sales professional and I can tell when someone is over-selling something, especially when it appears inferior to other products.

Are you telling me that, rolling shutter, lack of evf, no chance of af and the weight of a lead-brick will not be disadvantages, either I have just had a brain transplant or the 7d is being over-sold by Mr Bloom, either way his impressions seem very biased, irrespective of his willingness to tell us all about it.

Mate, it's called being enthusiastic. Am not being paid by Canon not on commission in fact I have to give camera back in two weeks.

Its very tiresome when, dare I say it, trolls blight this forum saying things like this. It happened with the Ex1 and the Letus and it will happen again.

For the record I love my gh1. I have bought the Olympus pancake lens for it and its a wicked camera but it is not as good for pro work asthe 7d due to its codec.

Yes, I would not have got the stability I got in this piece without the zacuto rig. Mate...that's why they buy it. Maybe I should just post stuff and not tell people how I used it or what I used...or better still not spend every tiny bit of free time I have doing this stuff so the community gets the info. I was up till 4 this morning doing it and was up at 7 for a shoot.

Have a little respect for others. It goes a long way!

Why you think the 7d is overpriced is beyond me! A camera that records in full hd with a sensor the size of the red that records at 44mbs and does overcrank and has amazing light sensitivity for 1600 bucks? Some people are never pleased!

Best wishes,

Philip

If anyone does buy a 7d please mention my name, doesn't matter which retailer, as I get 50 percent commission on all worldwide sales!

Phil Bloom has a Canon bedspread, matching pyjamas and a cat called 7D. Official.

Not correct Joe. I don't wear jim jams. But yes Lumix is very upset that she now has a collar saying 7d on it. The bedspread is actually a big picture of Steve Weiss from Zacuto. Same with my pillow cases.

I do still have two other cats called EX1 and EX3!

ha ha 'ere we go...
I think Philip deserves to be canon-ized for his work in this field. The patron saint of what though...

I heard that Philip has tomguilmette.com tattooed on his back and every time he takes a shower, he sets up his webcam, broadcasts it, and Tom pays him a commission.

On a slightly more serious note am not sure I ever said the 7d was good for doing your home videos on!

If you want decent video for home movies then the Red one is way to go!

Mmm...interesting idea but if I had Tom Guilmette tattooed on my back it wouldn't be realistic as my hairy back would give him an unrealstic full head of hair!
