Canon 60d vs my own camera

I almost got a Canon 60d today, the prices look good but then I stop and was thinking is this the right move? I shoot on the HVX200a and the footage looks pretty good. I have only seen one film that was shot with this camera so it doesn't seem to be a big hit as making movies for the big screen. As long as I keep my footage to the size about 12 inches (watching on the computer) it really looks good the smaller the better of course but when I put the footage on my 62" home theater it looks like major crap.

Now for the DSLR there are feature films being made with these camera and what I have seen I feel looks much better then any HVX but then that could be just me.

Am I right about wanting to change my camera to the 60d or am I making a silly mistake? I figured I would start out with the 60d and when the new mkIII comes out I would be ready for the jump. Any feedback would be helpful.

And NO I don't shoot sports or weddings if anyone is asking the camera won't be used for that. I'm shooting a short film (60 minutes) and will get to show it up on a large theater screen.

If you're footage looks totally crap on a big TV then you're likely viewing it much too close.

The 60D will not be much better or sharper in terms of viewing it on a big screen. Both cameras fall well short of resolving 1080 lines of detail. However what the 60D will give you is that 'cinematic' look, shallow DOF, great colours and dynamic range, and all the other bonuses of a larger sensor, interchangeable lens camera.
