CANON 5DmkII LENS SUGGESTION

Hello all...

I have a 5dmkII that we're shooting an indie feature on soon, and I'm looking to storyboard the film with actual shots from the camera.

So I want to start scouting locations this week, using the 5D and shooting "storyboard" shots that replicate the the focal lengths of the Zeiss ZE Primes we're using 18-100mm, but I don't want to have to carry around all the lenses and switch them out endlessly. So I'm looking for a cheap cheap cheap kit lens that will cover the sensor and cover 18-100mm minimum.

Speed is not a factor, nor is image quality, just looking to create a "directors viewfinder" for our specific lens set that can capture images.

I don't care if it's made in some third world country, assembled by chimpanzees, and housed in bamboo, as long as it gets this one specific job done and is affordable.

Thanks for the assistance, yee who have forgotten more about camera lenses than I shall ever know...

I think Sigma makes a 18-200 lens for pretty cheap. Search on Amazon and you can find it in a Canon mount.

Sigma 18-200

Sigma 18-200

From what I can tell online it looks like this is a "DC" lens, for cropped sensors? So that wouldn't fly with the 5D right, not without the heavy vignetting? This is all new to me so please tell me if I have idea what I'm talking about...

Using Nikon lenses??

Using Nikon lenses??

What about using one of these, is this possible with some form of adapter??

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF Lens

Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens

If that lens is indeed an APS-C lens then it would vignette on the 5D. If those Nikons are full frame, then you could get a cheap adapter off eBay and use them, although you would have to set the settings manually as the camera couldn't electronically set them (so make sure they have aperture rings).

I don't think there's a lens that covers all that range on a fullframe sensor

you could make it with two lenses: a canon 24-105 f/4L (get it second-hand "as new": it's the kit lens for some high-end cameras and some people just get it in order to sell it), or 28-105 f/3.5-4.5, plus something else on the wide end (maybe tokina 16-28 f/2.8)

of course, changing primes would give you nicer images...
