Canon 5D MKIII Spotted In The Wild?

Posts have been deleted; rest assured that using terms like "crybabies" isn't welcome. We don't attack each other here.

Plenty of people like a full frame sensor. That alone will keep it in the game against the GH2 even if other features and qualities are lacking in comparison. I'm just saying that it wont need to blow the GH2 out of the water to remain competitive.

Yep, GH2 had just come out when I bought my 5Dmk2. Looked hard at it. Didn't buy it (GH2) for one reason, the 2X crop.

And again, without starting a flame war, the GH2 is a small share of the market. I actually have turned may people on to it. A couple of times a week someone will ask me "Should I get a 60D or a t2i" and I tell them to look into the GH2. It's (GH2) not even on the radar screen of the casual, not especially informed) person looking to buy a "DSLR" for video. I haven't seen the numbers, but I expect the Canon line crushes it in terms of sales.

You can't even rent one. I can go to my local rental house and rent a 5Dmk2, a t2i, a t3i, OR a 60D. I can't rent a GH2.

We are gear heads who follow this stuff closely, most people are not.

going back to the 5D3 thing...

I just received an email from redcoon (big european e-tailer) with special offers for the following cameras:
Canon 1D4
Canon 5D2
Canon 7D
Nikon D700
Nikon D300s
Sigma SD1

most of these have one thing in common (apart from a very nice price tag)

I just hope it will have a clean 1080p hdmi out. Aliasing, moire would be nice too. Maybe 60p.
Any audio stuff is uninteresting for me as I don't want any cables hanging from my camera.

I love the FF35 small format look. I know some people go on and on about the shallow dof, there are more things about larger sensors than depth of field. That said, the Ikonoscope seems really cool too.

Yep, don't care about audio, don't care about swivel screens, just upgraded processor(s) on a similar sized sensor that get rid of line skipping and give full resolution hdmi out and hopefully 60 fps.

I can do without those features. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):
Are you sure? They are really nice to have if, for example, the water is looking dull and you want to add a little magic colors. Or someone's beard needs a little sparkling green and pink. And what about those boring brick walls? What would they look like without some psychedelic movement?

I've always been quite fond of the bugs crawling in people's eyebrows myself.

I don't think it will. In fact I think this is more symbolic than a true change in how Canon will run its operations in the future.

The 1D-X is already being pushed back a month or so.

A number of people are waiting for the 7D II and 5D III so I'm sure the powers that be at Canon are aware of the possible sales numbers but I'm not so sure if Japan and Thailand have fully recovered yet.
I'm not so sure the world economy has recovered yet...

that's a very astute observation and i see that pattern repeating itself in many other domains, which causes me to conclude that the mainstream is usually missing something when looking for the best or best value. This suggests that my magazine is on track to informing gear-heads and wannabe gear heads in one portal.Ideally, facebook feeds ought to bridge this gap some day but hey, what about a gearportal only- no pet pics?. another fact that i noticed is that these forums do not really vet facts. All but DPReviews.com just kinda moderate. So facts like the 2X crop on the GH2 just kind get swept under the rug, when they can be important for some shooters. Or color bandwidth which matters a lot in green screen. Still, any lively forum is better than none.

My realistic want list. Improved codec, no M&A, 30 min record time, 720p/60, improved low light by 2 stops, no rescaling on hdmi out when pressing record. I bet that is about all we are going to see.

^ looks quite realistic indeed - and it could be good enough too: just make sure the 1080p24 is sharp (maybe not as much as in a hacked GH2, but definitely sharper than in current models), that the 720p60 has no M&A issues either, and that the "improved codec" means better image quality, not just "same quality, lower bitrate"

Pretty much what I'd like too, though I'd trade those 2 stops low light for 2 stops extra DR.

If they could give us 12+ stops DR, 1000 line resolution without moire and aliasing, and a native HDMi out I'd be a happy bunny. I don't even care about the audio as I go dual system anyway.

A 1Dx sensor with a single Digic V+ and perhaps a Digic IV for exposure and AF should be do-able at £2500

NormanBates got in before me but my post stands.

I'd *really really* like to know the bit-rate of the codecs. Are we looking at 30-35 mbps IBP and 100 mbps I-Frame? Or is there a 360 mbps I-Frame? Or is the 360mbps actually the C-DSLR MJPEG? and is the I-Frame 4:2:2? 8 bit or 10 bit?

Questions, questions.

Actually a well implemented 33 mbps IBP codec could be quite useful, as could a 100 mbps 4:2:2 codec even at 8 bit.

Or just implement a 10 bit uncompressed HDMI output for those who can afford an outboard recorder.

I'd trade better low light (which the 5D II does a MORE than adequate job on) for the holy grail of digital capture which is a roll off on highlights that doesn't look like garbage.

actually, now that I think of it... the digic DV III processor in the C300 can also be found on $200 entry level consumer videocameras, so it must be a really really cheap chip to produce: add one of those to the DSLR, besides the digic 5, and encode video to the XF codec (4:2:2 8-bit at 50 Mbps) - 10bit and 100 Mbps would be better, but 4:2:0 8-bit H.264 at 24 Mbps would be worse, so don't complain too much
