Canon 5D mk2 with Canon K35 Primes (55mm and 85mm) not cover ff sensor

Recently bought a BNCR to FD mount from cielo7 on ebay, it fits both my 7D and 5D. I've managed used my Canon K35 55mm and 85mm BNCR primes on my 7D but when I used it on 5D, it seems it does not cover full frame, there are massive grey shadow cover half the vf from bottom up.

I am not sure what I have done wrong here, I've thought K35 primes would cover full frame but it turned out untrue in my test. I suspect that it could be the mirror of the 5D get in the way......but before deciding to get my 5D mirror remove and gutted, I would like to make sure that K35 primes will actually cover full frame sensor of 5D. Has anyone had any experiences with this combination? Thanks

First of all:

Wow!

Congrats on owning a set of K35s!

Where did you get them?

secondly:

I am willing to bet your mirror is stuck part way close (or shutter)

try activating live-view, then attaching the lens. Be careful when you turn the camera off or turn off live-view - you could crack your mirror.

I'd personally take the camera to a professional camera repair shop and have them safely and temporarily remove your reflex mirror unless you shoot a lot of stills.

Hope that Helps.

In case you were wondering - I am one of the people responsible for the HotRodCameras PL mount, so I have a long history of knowing and understanding these systems.

no problem - please email me if you ever decide to sell them: mrpolaroid at gmail dot com

you could try turning the camera on with no lens, then turn on live view, then hold the lens up to the porthole - you should be able to tell pretty fast whether they cover...

Hello,

I own a set of bncr k-35 many years ago ( with a Mitchell bncr camera ! ) and now would love tu use them with a compact canon DSLR, less heavy than my old camera :)

My question for Modology : Did you finaly get good results with the canon 5D and the adaptor mount of cielo7 ? Did you remove the mirror of you 5D ? Does it work without this grey shadow problem ?

My set is 18, 35, 55, 85.

Thanks to give more information, I hesitate to buy the 5D over the 7D cause this problem...

Hi, I'm very happy with the Cielo7 BNCR to EOS mount ( Please dont buy other cheaper mount on ebay as I've bought another one cheaper on ebay and it did not fit at all ). I've removed my mirror from my 5D and it solves the grey shadow problem.
So far works perfectly on my 5D ( 18mm would not cover 5D sensor ) although I'd love to know more about flange focal distance so that I can figure out some way to calibrate the mount.
