GH2 Canon 50mm lens w/ebay Fotasy FD-M43 adapter and the GH2, APERTURE PROBLEM

If you have 6 lenses, I think you should buy 6 cheap mounts and lens caps. Now, your FD lenses will all behave like a native lens.

I have the Ciecio7 version bought on ebay and have to say its brilliant, works with FD and FL lenses. When you attach it to the lens you just have to make sure the aperture lever on the lens is engaged between two prongs in the adapter. There are no moving parts. Built like a tank. I have two of them for 50mm/1.4 FD and a 24mm/2.8 FD. I dont have any links with the company but am a very satisfied customer.

Hope this helps

Hey Martin, I think I'll order that adapter. It doesn't have the moving ring that is giving me a problem. The adapter now works, but after you put it in the case a couple of times the ring gets moved from handling and you then have to stop and move things around to get it working again. It's just not worth the constant fiddeling with the adapter to make sure its working. I know others are not having problems with it, and that's good, but I'd like to not worry if it's going to work if my family or friends pick the camera up and it's not working properly. Thanks for the advice everyone.

When you attach the lens just make sure the aperture lever engages between the two prongs, its easy. As I mentioned I have been really happy with the two I bought and shipping from Poland to the UK was only 5 days.

I am amazed that you have been able to purchase a brand-new in box Canon FD lens as Canon stopped making/selling them over 30 years ago. My assumption when I saw the OP was that it was in fact an EF lens.

I too have several Ciecio7 FD-MFT adaptors & they are beautifully made & very good value. Other cheap adaptors that I have seem to have some play in them as they have moving parts & are made of metal & plastic but these all metal adaptors are very snug & presumably accurate.

I got the Ciecio7 adapter too, two of them actually since i'll have two gh1's soon. I had the exact same problem when i got the first FD lens, after putting the lens on the adapter, the aperture was set to full open and wouldn't change. i sent a letter to Ciecio7 and he said basically the same thing, twist counterclockwise til it mates and sinks in, then clockwise til it locks, with one addition, he said to make sure the aperture is set halfway between max and min, i haven't tried it without doing that, so it could be that only certain types of FD lenses require it..

I had this problem @ first... my problem was that there was oily residue on the aperture blades itself, causing sticking. I kept nudging the manual aperture lever until it finally closed down to f16.

Try setting the aperture down to +f16... then nudge the crap out of the lever on the mount side that lets you switch on manual aperture adjustments.

Then just keep watching the lens until you see the blades close down. You will then prolly see some oily residue on the blades. care till oil is gone. I never got my lens cleaned... I just kept it closed down for a few days and its gone.

it seems that the aperture system is the weakest part of (especially) the 50mm FD lenses. i had to buy (and return) 2 lenses until i got one which was functioning correctly. i recently sent back a 100mm 2.8 FD also, because aperture was not working. so maybe its not limited to the 50mm lenses.
but once its working, those FD lenses are GREAT!
btw, you should see the aperture moving inside the lens. also, if you got it mounted on the gh2 and turn the aperture ring, you see light changes in the monitor according to the aperture settings (MODE M).
