Canon 50mm 1.4 night test

Thanks man I'm a noob to photography/videography as well. My pics were always taken by a point and shoot, and my videos were always from handycams.

Reason I asked was because I can get a nikor 50mm F1.8 for 100.00 locally.

Thanks Everyone. Yes, I am thrilled with this lens!

Bill - Yes, I was shooting aat f/2.0

tflak - she's my beautiful daughter who puts up with me testing my camera. And she looks exactly like my wife, so I am a lucky man!

And I just did a "bright day" test with the Canon and the Vari-ND, see the new thread I posted. Looks great.

Nikon lenses in general are a bit more contrasy and sharper than the FD lenses. While this results in sharper images, the bokeh from this lens is a bit harsh so you need to be careful with background. The FD is a bit flatter/softer and returns with a slightly smoother bokeh. The Nikon is a f1.8 lens while the FD is f1.4 which gives you 1/3 stop of more light. The FD was designed for MF so its focusing ring should be very smooth and a joy to use. The Nikon is an AF lens so its focusing ring does not give you the same feel, although it works well.
