Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II

I previously had the Mark I version of this lens and loved it. Although not officially advertised by Canon, it was essentially parfocal. I recently purchased the Mark II version and it seems much worse at holding focus across the zoom range. If I grab focus at 70mm, it stays pretty sharp until about 35mm, then softens as I widen out to 24mm. Does anybody else with this lens have this issue? Is it worth contacting Canon, or will they blow it off because it's technically not a function of the lens?

My version II is not parfocal either. I believe version I was close to parfocal, but I don't think version II is (according to a comparison review I found in 2013, if I remember correctly)

24-70 Mark II also has less smooth fall-off between sharp and out of focus (less pleasing) and less smooth bokeh than Mark I

Mark II is beloved by pixel counters though, as it is sharper - but at 1080p that makes zero difference.

If you're artistic, then Mark I is a better lens - it's juts a prettier, smoother image. If you are a pixel counter then Mark II is better.

Question, does it make a difference regrading the camera its' mounted too? i.e. worse on the 5D Mark 2 vs the 5D Mark 3? I have noticed better sharpness with my 24-70 f2.8 when mounted to the newer 5D3 as opposed to my older 5D2 that i sold off.
