Canon 1DX is the "SAME" camera as the 1DC except FIRMWARE...

Maybe. Or maybe it's like the CPU-world where overclocking rarily gives any heat/stability problems.

Note the difference in size between a computer tower and a Scarlet. Compare how often each are taken out into direct sunlight. Etc...

? My computer tower is HUMONGOUS. It completely dwarfs the Scarlet in size and noise. Or do you want to compare them to laptops? You can overclock them too you know. Chips are binned for laptops the same as for desktops.

EPIC at 58k USD is a different ball game alltogether. If the price of EPIC M has dropped, then I am not aware. Also, EPIC is not a great low light camera. The Canon C300 is great in that respect and according to Shane Hurlbut, the ISO 6400 of 1D C is better than ISO 1600 of C300. So these are two completely different worlds. EPIC has got its strengths and I don't think we should compare the EPIC with 1D C. The 1D C is expected to be used in a minimalistic configurations and doesn't need additional cooling. I had actively looked at EPIC and then dropped the idea for the reasons mentioned.

Nikon and filming. Less said the better.

Are you happy with the T3i crop mode? I would not. The point I was trying to make is you can use the full frame sensor as well as the 1.6crop sensor to get different point of views. The 1.6crop mode or S35 size mode giving the same angle of view as the cinema cameras.

In RED cameras, the resolution drops as you use smaller portion of the sensor.

Epic is just as small and is 5k. And has much higher framerates than 60.

Nikons (D4 and D800) do this with fullframe sensors, and the Canon T3i does it with an APS-C sensor. And Reds have been capable of this for years.

So far the hackers have been doing very well. Magic lantern is finally coming to the 7D, it took a while, but they just finally cracked it. And these are guy who aren't getting paid a salary. It might be time to start a kick starter to buy a couple 1DX for the hackers to work on.

I second that idea!

No other camera gives me such ability.

I was simply pointing out inaccuracies in your post. I was not making judgements about the usefulness of such features for your work - only you can do that.

Despite the Red dropping resolution when shooting with a cropped sensor, it is still full HD - contrary to your claims of the 1DC being the "only" camera capable of this.

Have you used the latest generation of Nikon DSLRs? Their video capabilities are now on par with Canon - many would argue that the D800 is far superior, actually.

And yes, when forced to shoot with Canon DSLRs I LOVE the T3i crop mode. I use it whenever possible. Have you personally tried it?

Just as anybody familiar with EOSHD and AR would have guessed - he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about, but will post anything to get more blog hits.

Makes me wonder if the physical ICs are the same, but they use a reconfigurable hardware device, like an FPGA, instead of an ASIC and just have different hardware designs for each camera model.

That is what I would do at least. Save a ton of money. I doubt they did that though.

Nice EOSHD bashing, really added to the conversation with that one.

No. no its not.

How is it not? We are talking about BS he posted to garner blog hits.

Fully relevant. People need to be informed about the sources of information. EOSHD is not a reputable source, there is a history of these kinds of wild unsubstantiated claims from him.

No s*%t. Don't you guys remember when he posted that next Canon DSLR's will have 4:2:2 mpeg2 codecs? EOSHD is just a rumor site which is trying to get hits in all kinds off ways. He also sells GH2 stuff so there is also a commercial aspect to it.

Reminds me a bit of Charlie Demerjian (Nvidia hater) except Charlie actually has insider info then and now which Andrew completely lacks.

I would absolutely hate it if the camera-related-www became anything like the computer-related-www: 99% trolling and fanboyism, 90% completely-partial sites, way too much emotion tied to what's in the end just a dumb piece of equipment made by some company that actually doesn't care at all about you. I still visit semiaccurate and fudzilla from time to time, but when I arrived at the camera-related forums I was amazed by the existence of a community that's polite and professional: it took me a week here to leave all the PC-related forums and comment sections.

Yep a genuine mumbling he picked up on (did not invent) - turned into 'truth' if you read it that way - which I never would!

The latest interview is just plain embarrassing.... Like a hormonal teenage girl adding snide remarks after the interview was complete. But because he posts so much FUD, the companies are now forced to actually communicate with him to clear things up.

Must.... Stop.... Reading....
