C300: Canon 17-55mm vignettes in 4k, whats a good alternate IS lens when shooting 4k wide?

The combination of the Canon focal reducer with the 24-105mm f/4 lens was a big factor in my decision to go with the C70, and I'd highly recommend it if you ever find yourself with an RF mount body (rumor has it that the next C300 will be RF). It's like having a 17-70mm f/2.8 lens with great stabilization and excellent autofocus, and it never comes off my camera..

What is a "canon focal reducer"? Like a metabones?

It is like a Metabones, except that you don't risk taking a hit with autofocus accuracy, image stabilization, or aperture control as long as you stick to Canon lenses. It is said to work just as well as attaching an EF lens to an EF mount, which has been consistent with my experience so far.

I've been eyeing that. QHR, about how long does it take you to bolt on and off the 0.71 reducer/adapter? Does it feel like something you should only do a few times as you transition from EF to RF glass, or could it be an everyday thing? Or do you feel the bolts would only be needed with a bigger/heavier lens such as a 70-200?

I thought the bolts were optional, i.e. you put them in if you are going to stick with that set-up? But otherwise, it just mounts as a bayonet mounting lens adapter (a la a Metabones)

That's what I'm wondering. The short manual doesn't say the bolts are optional. So I'm curious about what an owner/user of the adapter has found.

Here's a link to a PDF of the manual for to 0.71 reducer:

What Norbro said. The adapter feels as good or better build quality than any Metabones I have ever used. I'd have no issue swapping it out regularly. Personally, I don't use the supplied bolts. I might if I were running the 70-200 f/2.8, but I don't own that lens. I keep it mounted semi-permanently to my 24-105mm f/4 ii, and I have dedicated EF-RF adapters on my 70-200 f/4 (I need the extra reach rather than the extra stop) and 10-18 f/4-5.6 (EF-S lens). This is my main "holy trinity" but if I want to bring in some other prime or specialty EF lenses, then I have two different ways to mount them. I appreciate having this versatility.

It is way more solid, even without the bolts, than a speedbooster since the tolerances are all kept within the mafi...I mean, family. It feels really solid. I'm guessing the bolts would maybe help with flex of the mount? In terms of play, I wouldn't even bother with the bolts. There is no play whatsoever on my copy with the C70.

The front element of the reduer is bulbous, so you have to pick your glass carefully. Rear portruding elements that telescope out the back of your lens will have issues with this adapter. Not going to be a problem Canon full frame glass, but if you to third party EF mount, you need to make sure your lens will work. Most will, but most of my Leica R's , for example, won't. Which is a big shame.
