FS7: canon 100-400 or canon 100-400 mkll ?

Looking at a 100-400 canon zoom.
Both lenses compared at petapixel.com:

From a resolutions standpoint I wouldn’t rush out to upgrade my old 100-400mm IS L. The resolution difference is mostly in the corners at 400mm, and most of us are more interested in center and mid-field sharpness at that focal length.
Still, the fact that the new lens has a regular rotating zoom ring rather than a trombone barrel and much better IS system will be plenty of reason for a lot of folks to upgrade. (Personally, I liked the trombone, but I’ll give it up for the stronger IS.)

The old ones are for sale at 800 dollar and the mark 2 for 1900 dollar.

IS isn't important with the FS7, does anyone know both lenses. Is the new Canon 100-400 mkll worth the extra money?

thanks

I have the Mk1. I played with a MkII and took some comparison pics at the time, but the only advantage for me was the twist zoom, rather than the trombone of the Mk1. No discernable difference in quality to my eyes. Sorry, I don't have the comparison pics any longer.

I decided I couldn't justify the extra expense.

Ben.

Thanks Ben
The 'low' weight of this lens, compared to Tokina and Sigma 150-600 zooms is nice. I am going to try one. Let the Ebay hunt start :-)
