cannot play back by 1394 device

Dear All,
I have an old type Mojo and use Avid Xpress pro 5.7. My computer is a Pentium 4, 3GHz with 2GB of RAM, and I am using Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with SP2.
My problem is: when I am doing playback or digital cut with Mojo, everything is fine, regardless of project types, like PAL 25p, 1080i/25 or 1080/25p, and footage types, both SD and HD.
However, when I switch from DNA to 1394, it doesn't play at all, not even in Composer. I mean only the green PLAY icon is lit, but the picture and sound don't move at all. It happens to all project and footage types. What do I miss out?
I heard an expert from here implied that to have the best quality digital cut is to avoid using Mojo and connects the deck directly to the computer for the dubing. Anyone comments on this?
Anyway, even though someone disagrees with this thinking, I think I need to fix the problem of no playback by 1394 device, because eventually, I need to export some of my final cut to HDV machine.
Thanks a lot in advacne.
King
