For us canadians, when was the last time you bought a camera and didn't pay 25% or more over US pricing? Thanks Panasonic for keeping the price on level with the exchange. Now to put my money down at the local store:)

Yes, big thank you. Although I have to wonder if the dealers are responding on their own, as the camera isn't even listed on panasonic.ca yet.

I am aware of the exchange rate. Tends to have very little bearing on the price at major dealers, or at msrp level. Macs are still 20% more expensive for most models, as an example of big corps putting the screws to Canada. Everyone will still charge whatever Panasonic Canada says is the price. I've never seen 'street price' mark downs from any any dealer in Canada outside of consumer products.

Quit crying in your lager, guys. When adding a $1300 round-trip flight to the U.S. to the price of a new cam bought in the U.S. becomes less than buying it locally, let me know.

but almost everyone in canada lives right near the boarder and US every boarder town has mailbox companies for canadians shopping in the USA. The panasonic I go to in Vancouver stated that Panasonic Canada is following Panasonic USA right now with the exact same suggested price. He said he can still work a bit on the $4999 price.

Inter-Cité in Montreal is taking pre-orders at $4800 plus tax. I got in line. They said I could share the info. Seem like nice people.

what? Since when does anyone fly to the states to purchase gear? Is this a joke?

I've never flown only to buy gear; however, that is when I time my purchases. The savings are greater than the airfare for me.

I was just checking the price of a Canon 7d body, out of curiosity. When it was first introduced, it ran $3500 here in Israel and I paid $1700 during a trip to see the folks. Now it's down to $1900 while in the States it's $1500.
