can you use a zeppelin with mic on camera?

now i know a mic on camera is the assumed last resort, but for me most of the time it is the only option. i work alone mainly covering events, often outside. i use a rode ntg2 on a dvx, can i mount a k-tek zeppelin or rycote windshield on camera or is it just too big & be in the frame? i use a sabra som shock mount which does mount quite high off the shoe adaptor, would i need to get the k-tek shockmount to work with the zeppelin? also which size zeppelin should i get for use with the rode, it is a big shotgun mic. eventualy i will get the at 4073a mic but for now this is what i have. any help would be gratefullly accepted

If the end of the windshield sneaks into frame, you may have to use an offset bracket to mount it to the accessory shoe.

The older-style Rycote modular suspension and zepplin kits can be easily adapted to offset the stand-mount to sit farther back along the camcorder chassis. As for sizing, there's a very helpful sizing chart over at Rycote's website. If your particular mic isn't listed, just find one with the same dimensions.

Have you considered a "gorilla condom" rather than a full zep'? I've found that Rycote softie systems work quite well on-camera. They don't offer quite as much protection as a full zep', but a softie shockmount/windshield combo is much more reasonable than a modular suspension and windjammer.

thanks for the advice, i already have the dead cat that comes with the rode but it's not that great when in a breeze, i presume the rycote softie is more effective, costing many times more? am wondering if i could double up a rycote softie with the rode deadcat for windy times? looking at the rycote systems they seem to have softies & then windjammers that fit over these for additional protection. my only worry would be whether the deadcat would fit over the top of a softie, it's already a snug fit on the rode. is this a viable option?

The Rycote softie systems consist of a shock-mount and a slip-on open cell windshield with integrated fur cover. http://www.rycote.com/products/softie_system/softie_mount/ http://www.rycote.com/products/softie_system/softie_windshield/

I'm uncertain how well the Softie Windshield would work with your existing shockmount, because crossed-band shock-mounts aren't designed for the added nose-load of a slip-on windshield.

Poking around the Rycote website, I ran across this:

It looks a bit lighter-duty than the standard softie windshield, but it may be better-suited to your needs.

hey thanks again for your efforts, bit of a bummer to have to buy another shockmount with it but i guess i would have to do the same with the modular windshield.
my other major query is to how much better this would be than the rode deadcat that i am using now, quite a bit of money if it is only a marginal improvement. the rode website does not give any figures with which to compare

have just had a look on the bh photovideo website & they sell a rycote softie kit with rode ntg2 that uses a cross band shockmount similar to mine which makes me wonder if my sabrasom will be ok with a softie?
also there is a k-tek zeppelin fuzzy with shockmount which seems to do the same as the rycote system, the shoe mount version being a bit cheaper
