Can you use a different deck to capture 24pa?

The playback VTR in my current camera appears to be on the decline, and I've been thinking more about getting that DVX I've been wanting. But before I do that I want to get a deck to capture from, to avoid further degrading my current camera and to make sure the DVX lasts a good while.

I've been thinking about either the Sony DSR-11 or the Panasonic AG-DV2500. I like the DSR-11 because it records to DVCAM, which would be good for archiving. But if I use it to capture 24p from the DVX, will it be the same quality as it would from a Panasonic deck, or does it not matter at that point?

Yes. It will be the same quality. And make sure you don't mix different brands of tapes. Just stick to one brand.
If you are going to be using the tapes from your DVX, then stick to those. That is, if you choose panasonic tapes, then stick to panasonic tapes. Don't use the DVCAM ones, just use the full size DV ones.
If, on the other hand, you decide to go for sony tapes, then use only Sony. Don't mix them with the Panasonic ones.

All the best

Fidel.
