I want to capture a vhs tape into sony vegas 5.0 . My ? is can you plug a vcr into the dvx and then use a dv cord to connect to the computer so your editing softwere can recognize the vcr.  i have tried this but all i get is the audio but i can see the video on my dvx.  any suggestions? thanks ;D

There's two things you can do:

1. Buy a analog capture card.
2. Use your DV camera as a recorder. Basically plugin your vcr outputs to your camera inputs and hit record on your DVcamera. Once you've have it recorded then simply capture what you've just record on to your com. Yes, its time consuming but it works.

If youre going to do a lot of VCR transfer to com, then go out an invest in a analog capture card.

Hope this helps you if not then I suck! :)

Re: can you plug a VCR in?

thank you for your help.

i do have a analog capture card on my sony vaio. my only problem is it seems the only way i can capture is through a program called giga pocket. i know this is more of a vegas question but i cant seem to get it out of giga pocket or capture stright into vegas. i also have a, shame to say, "pinnacle linx video input cable". but when i use that vegas 5.0 will get the video but no audio.

that is why i hoped the dvx could hook stright to computer for simplicity reasons. but Rec. to the dv tape is not a bad idea. thanks again bluespider ;D

Ok, i must be realy dumb or something.  i looked though the manul and found nothing and tried a lot of differet options, but how do you record from an external rca device. like a VCR ??? thanks

NEVER MINE, FIGURED IT OUT :-/

You don't have to record first, you can configure the DVX to convert analog to digital on the fly and record directly. Go to AV IN/OUT SETUP and change DV OUT to "on" (it defaults to "off").
