can you name this singer??

I thought it was BJ Thomas too, but after listening I changed my mind. BJ is more of a baritone than this singer. I was leaning towards Glen Cambell.

Tom Jones?? No way - not with the twang. That sounds like a genuine twang not an affected twang. The theatricality, though - Tom Jones all the way. Damnit, powerdog, why did you have to ruin my morning with this? Can't... stop... wondering... about.... mystery.... singer.

I had to share my misery.

I think we can assume that the mystery singer:
1. Is/was a Las Vegas-type entertainer. Probably a flashy set and lots of middle-aged women in the aud. Maybe he threw his handkerchief out to them.
2. Big name at the time.

This is what kills me. He's likely NOT an unknown. Just picture the marquee: "Don Rickles/Liberace/and....and....

It's a toss-up here.

What's throwing me is the "weeperwill" and the "meednight train".

While it's not completely unknown for native English-speaking singers to do stuff like that to words becuase their vocal teacher taught them to, it's more common in those who don't normally speak English.

I think it's pretty good, actually. But that's irrelevant.

As for the pronunciation, I was thinking maybe another English-speaking country like NZ, Wales, or Australia.

Definitely not GC, Charley Pride or BJ Thomas...I listened to those and they sound different. It was also recorded in the 70s by Charlie McCoy and get this, Terry Bradshaw. It's not Bradshaw. I don't know about Charlie McCoy, I can't find his version anywhere.

Was McCoy a big star? This guy sounds like one to me....big audience, fancy production. Anyway, if I remember correctly, McCoy was primarily a harmonica player.

At least we know it wasn't Rosemary Clooney. (I hope!)
