Can you monitor over hdmi while recording 4k on the a7sii?

On the a7sii I want to turn off the rear LCD on the camera and monitor from an external monitor over hdmi while recording. Right now when I start recording the hdmi turns off. I've tried futzing with all of the items under "hdmi settings". Any ideas? Thank you!

By default, the camera will switch between the finder and LCD screen automatically. To do what you want you need to make the a7s II use the viewfinder exclusively.

Unplug the HDMI device. If it's plugged in the setting cant be changed. Go to gear icon [Custom Settings]
Select Finder/Monitor. Default is AUTO
Change to Viewfinder (MANUAL)

Now the LCD will not display anything.
