Can you have 2 versions of FCP on one Computer?

I have FCPHD Academic and could not upgrade so I purchased FCS2 and I want to have both versions on my computer because I dont want to have any issues opening past projects. Is it possible?
 
It's possible, but not really necessary. The new install will delete previous versions, so you'll have to manually move the old one to a hidden location (read: not the Applications folder). But you should have no problems opening up past projects. If you still aren't confident about that, and you know some one who has FCS2, try to open a copy of an old project there and see what happens.
