Can you film HD on a mini DV tape?

[HeyAndy]

I took out a Panasonic HVX200 and was told by a staff that I can't film HD footages into a mini DV tape.

Is this true?

It's called HDV or High Definition Video - many cameras record high definition to mini-DV tapes, including the HVX200.

The HVX 200 only records HD to the P2 cards. The DV transport only records standard definition.

I think the bandwidht of mini-dv isn't big enough to "carry" HD....

Not with the HVX. -- It shoots DVCPRO-HD on p2 cards. However, some older HD cameras (XH-A1, Sony Z1U) shoot HDV to DV tape.
