Can you export an OMF from an HD project in Avid Xpress Pro?

I'm a sound editor (who doesn't know the Avid) and I'm trying to get an OMF from the picture editor of the feature I'm going to work on. The film was shot with the HVX-200 (P2 card) and he cut the HD project on his Avid Xpress Pro. He says there is no option to export to an OMF. He gave me an AAF file, but I couldn't open it in ProTools 6.9 using Digitranslator.
He says you CAN export to an OMF if it is a SD project, but not an HD project.

He wrote me this:
"I confirmed it by going into a SD project I have loaded on my system and yes, the option for OMF 2.0 is there. However, this does not apply to non OMF files (in this case MXF) in an HD project, the option just does not exist."

I found PDF's for the Avid Xpress Pro HD that says it can export to OMF, and I find it hard to believe that you actually can't export an OMF in an HD project.

Is this possible, or can you really not export an OMF for an HD project in AXP?
And if you can, please tell me how, so I can tell him!

If he shot in 1080, he can go to the Format tab in his project window, drop down to SD, and then export OMF.

If he shot 720, he can start a new project at 1080, open his sequence bin in that project, and then do the same thing.

I work with MC Adrenaline, I can confirm that when working in HD the export option for Pro Tools is AAF. Our Pro Tools system has no problems opening AAF files - works like a champ. I'm not sure why your system won't open the AAF files. Have you asked about importing AAF on the Digi forums? Rather than using a workaround I would try to get the AAF import working. It appears that AAF will eventually replace OMF for delivering audio for final mix to Pro Tools.

Thanks so much for the help, guys. I will try to find out why the inport into PTools didn't work for me and also get the picture editor to try that OMF solution.
I really appreciate the responses!

FWIW, here's my workflow.
Export a low res quicktime movie of the locked picture - usually 720 x 480 highly compressed to keep the file size down. Then export the AAF, audio only embedded in the AAF. Most of my work is spot work so the file sizes are relatively small. Embedding the audio may not work on long form projects.
