Can you edit Atomos Shogun 4K ProRes in Premiere on a PC?

My initial testing shows that it does not work on a PC but does on a Mac.

Premiere 8.2 on a PC does not work with Atomos Shogun ProRes 4K footage on my newer PC. Media Pending, generic import errors and no real response from the Source and Program window. Video clips play just fine in Quicktime Player Pro on the PC, just not in Premiere.

On my Mac, everything works just fine. Any help?!!!!

Really?

1) Which version of Premiere do you have?

2) Which version of windows are you on?

3) Are you importing a 4k ProRes clip from the Shogun and if so, are you able to drop it on the timeline and scrub around and open it up in the source monitor, etc?

4) If you dropped one of the clips onto an empty timeline and allowed the clip to set the sequence settings, can you attach a framegrab of those sequence settings? That would be super helpful.

Thanks!

Got it. Installed Blackmagic's Desktop Video player and it changed how Premiere looked at and played these files. Works fine now no matter what is selected in the sequence settings under video previews. Phew!

Keep in mind that while you should be able to bring in ProRes into a PC, you won't be able to render to it. I started using Avid DNX with my Atomos Ninja II recorder for that reason. You can get the DNX codec for free from Avid's website.

Ooops...I failed to acknowledge the 4k aspect of the post. Avid does have a DNX-HR codec for 4k, but I'm unaware if the shogun has it or if it is free like DNX-HD is. Sorry, I should have paid more attention.

No worries. DNxHD flavors are coming in March I think for the Shogun. Right now there's only ProRes and no playback. It's early still. Either way, I got it working by installing Blackmagic's Desktop video player. I think Premiere wasn't using the quicktime player to play these prores files. It's complicated and has to do with the fact that I had recently downloaded Miraizon's ProRes codec pack for exporting to ProRes and that might have messed with how Premiere handles ProRes. But all is well now. Thanks!

Correct, though you can still *convert* it to ProRes. Free solutions: Another Gui or 5DtoRGB.
