Can you change camera settings through a PC

I swear I read or heard somewhere that you can connect the 500 to a PC and change menu settings. I know that sort of thing is doable through sd card (though I don't know how) but is it doable with a direct connect?
 
No... not as such. You can use a remote control paintbox with the 500, so if there's a software emulator that emulates a remote control paintbox I guess that'd work.
