Can you bring an external video source into the camera via composite or svid?

As the topic asks, is it possible to bring in video from an external source and record it to the dv in the dvx?

ty :)

of course, just hook it up to the s or composite inputs on the side above the XLR inputs then put the camera in VCR mode and press the record button on the top under the handle. Not the record button you use for recording through the lens.

thanks a bunch :)

does anyone know the resolution of different formats like SDI, RGB, Composite, Svideo ?

resolution doesn't have much do do with SDI, RGB, comp, S, etc... Resolution for all of these sources on SD footage is all the same. 720x480 (more or less....)
What are you trying to do?

I have another camera block, a sony dxc-950. It is a 3chip with 1/2" ccds. Its possible outputs are svid, composite and component. I was thinking of converting component to sdi and recording direct to a deck, or perhaps running svid into the dvx.

The reasoning is, that since its a higher power camera I could possibly shoot slow mo with it or green screen.

I don't really understand why you would do that though. The Sony DXC-950 is more of a surveillance type camera. I don't see how using such a camera would really improve things. You'll lose the manual control you'd have with the DVX. I'd personally just shoot with the DVX. It's great for slo-mo and chroma keying. I wouldn't bother with the 950, despite its larger CCD's.

Actually the dvx has just about as many controls over color and temp as the dvx, though it doesn't have gamma curves. Also my bayonet lense is 18x optical and can manually be controlled as well. But if you think I should just use the dvx I can do that.

Hi Lucidz! I bought the DXC-9100P as it outputs PAL Progressive over VGA. I am also thinking of buying the DXC990P for the 1/2-inch CCD and Component output.
The Component output can be recorded via the Blackmagic Intensity PRO @ 4x4x4 UNCOMPRESSED for unbeatable quality.
I was wondering if you ever to make a cable to extract the component signals fromt he DB9 output at the back of the camera..
Or if you know someone thinking of selling the DXC990P I would be willing to buy it for the Component output..
Cheers!
