I recently bought a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. It works great on the GH3 with the Metabones Speed Booster. Perfectly sharp at wide open aperture at 11mm. Only in the most right 10% of the screen the image starts to go soft. Not bad for an ultra wide angle with an adapter!
But, during filming I often use 2 camera's. I also have a Panasonic G6. So I bought an adapter for the Tokina to mount it on the G6. First I bought a Novoflex adapter. Tight fit, no problems there but the focus wasn't quite right. The lens became slightly decentered on the Novoxflex and 30% of the image was soft at large apertures. Because I also didn't like the aperture ring (too short) I sent it back and exchanged it for a Metabones Nikon G -> M43 adapter. It looks the same as the Speed Booster. I had high expectations...
But this one is even worse than the Novoflex. At both 11mm and 16mm, the left and mostly the right side of the image are extremely soft. The lens is heavily decentered with the adapter and I'm focussing weigh before the infinity mark on distant objects. It's also funny that I can put the focus on something far way on the right side of the image, and then the center becomes soft.
I know the Tokina works correctly, because it is fine on the Speed Booster.
TLDR:
I have used 2 of the most expensive adapters to mount the Tokina 11-16mm on the G6 but they decenter the lens and simply make it unusable until F8. The Speed Booster however gives great results at F2.8 across the whole image.
Is there anything that I can do? Can I adjust the adapter myself? Is that hard? Anyone has any experience with that?
Thanks!
