Can we please get the P2 Viewer?

To clarify something.

The performance of mxf files in the P2 viewing software is not any indication of how it will perform in actual editing software.

I have a 3ghz p4 laptop with a gig of RAM. P2 viewer playing clips form my internal hard drive at full screen is flawless. The same clips after being converted using Raylight play at 3-4 fps in Premiere, Vegas or media player. Taking native clips into AVID gets me choppy 15-16 fps.

So before we all get hopped up on the P2 viewing software, understand that it handles playing clips much better than any of the NLE do. So using it as a baseline is useless if you are trying to see how well your system will hold up.

That's what I'm getting at. If the P2 software can playback clips flawlessly on your system, aren't you surprised that you can't get similar performance in an NLE? My P4 3.4GHZ desktop with 1gig of ram plays native files perfectly in AVID, but I was curious to try the panasonic software with MXF on some of my other systems.

Basically, If Panasonic's software can playback MXF P2 HD clips no problem on PC hardware why the heck can't the NLE's like Premiere and Vegas? Support for this format must be just around the corner. The PC hardware can certainly handle it. This just conifrms that it is nothing more than a matter of writing the software.

There is no doubt in my mind that a PC could handle it. I believe this is a software issue. It will get straightened out eventually.
