Can use HVX200 to downcovert D5 to DVCPRO HD?

Hello, I have some D5 Hd footage (hour and 45 min) I want to downcovert to DVCPRO HD 1080 so I can edit of my FCP system. I had not been able to do it because it was to expensive to do it. So I thought I could put my camera in VCR mode with my firestore fs-100, connect the component cables to the D5 deck and just hit record on the HVX200 and caputre it. Would that work? Anybody do anything like that. Any other suggestions on how I can get a low budget solution to this?

thanks!

Could I capture the D5 footage and then export as DVCPRO HD 1080 on my FCP system?

I know i would need a high end system to capture the footage from the D5.
But would i need a special setup (hard drive, hardware) just to import the D5 footage to FCP and then export to DVCPRO HD 1080 ( i imagine i would have to wait 24 hours to do it at least...)?

Yes, if you have a Kona 2 or 3 card and a very fast raid. Also, with new version 2 of the Kona software for the Kona 3 card, you can do 720 to 1080 and 1080 to 720 cross-conversion on the fly in real time. Very cool.

Have been using to the Kona 3 to do this, we have had a D5 deck available for a month and it works great to input to the Kona 3 and downconvert to any format we want, in real time.

You'll love the card!
