Can this be done in FCP?

Please forgive me if this is a silly question regarding color correction.

I want to know how differences in color gradation in a single clip are achieved like in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR81pG2DI5A&feature=channel

There are portions of many of the frames where there is a distinct redish-pink cast that differs from the rest of the frame. How is something like this done? Can it be done in final cut?

It can be done in COLOR. Most of that looks like it was done in camera with filters, but this can easily be done in Color. FCP...that'd be pretty tricky.

It could be done in FCP using mattes and transparency settings. Or by creating the flares in Photoshop and importing to FCP. But Color is probably the best option.

The effect in the video doesn't look particularly complicated and you can do it fairly quickly in FCP using a few ways depending on the exact result you want to achieve. To me it just looks like a radial gradient placed at the edge or outside of the frame with a composite mode applied and the opacity turned down to taste.

Custom Gradient generator over your shot, set to radial, start color set to yellow (whatever the color you want to add), end color set to gray, change the composite mode to overlay, hard or soft light (I prefer soft light), position the center of the gradient where you want it to appear, adjust opacity to taste, etc.

For something with more control, duplicate the shot and place on V3 (leaving a track between it and the original), add a Color Corrector 3-way filter, adjust the blacks, mids and whites (you won't need to touch the whites at all in this effect) depending on what you want to achieve, change the composite mode of this clip to Travel Matte - Luma. Now place a black to white gradient of some sort (like a radial gradient using the Custom Gradient generator) on V2 (between the color corrected and original shot), by moving the gradient around you can change the location of the effect, by changing the controls in the color corrector 3-way filter on the top track, you can change the actual colors.

There are other ways of achieving it and like others have mentioned, you can do this in Color as well if you want to go that route.
