Can the Sony A7S do this?

Hey!

On my FS700 (and previously EA50) when filming live performances, what I found really useful was to have the focus set to manual but with face detection activated and then, occasionally hit the 'Push Auto' and it would focus on the face. Obviously it only works with native e-mount lenses, but I found this method invaluable for shooting live performances and occasionally when going handheld.
Can you achieve something similar on the A7S?

With face detection on and in manual focus mode, you still see little gray boxes on peoples faces. When you tap the AF button it will lock on the faces with the gray box and that box will turn white. Then I quickly press MF again or, (depending on how I've set it in my settings) I unpress that MF/AF button and it goes back to MF with the newly locked on face. That in combination with Lock-on AF works pretty well. I've shot about 15-20 weddings with the A7s so far in the last couple months and the toughest thing by far to shoot is the first dances that move all around with tons of people in the background. The face detection wants to lock on other faces too so really it can work against you sometimes to have it on. Of course you can always adjust focus manually as they move around, but I've found this way of using the A7s's AF assistance tools to be pretty reliable. Hope that helps.
