GH3 Can the Panasonic wide conversion lens be used with the 20mm 1.7?

So I just received the wide conversion lens that fits on the 14mm pancake. It works great and will do some tests soon.

Because of the same filter size, it also fits on the 20mm 1.7 pancake. However, I have read that it might not be good for the lens. It might damage the internal motor?

So what is the concensus on this? If I use it with manual focus with it only, can it be used?

I do know the 20mm pancake could be damaged by putting a filter on it. So I use an extension ring. It's simply a male/female ring that gives me a couple mm of distance between the lens and the filter. It might work for the wide conversion as well but it may throw the focus off slightly? I don't know. If you do ever plan on putting a filter on the 20mm, it would make sense to buy an extension ring anyways. I think Cokin makes one.

The wideangle adapter fits the 20mm fine with a spacer ring (I used a filter with the glass removed) and auto-focusses fine, but the resulting image (effective focal length ~15.5mm) has poor sharpness, particulaly in the corners. This is the case even when the lens is stopped down :(

I tried the combination and went back to simply using the 14mm.

Hmm ok. I will try it out first on the 14mm tomorrow, making it a 11mm. Plenty wide :)

I read that indeed gets a bit softer in the edges, but shouldnt loose too much sharpness in the center... I dont see any reason that the 20mm loses more sharpness with this converter than the 14mm so you made me scared :)

Don't be scared using it on the 14mm - I really like the results that gives! Poor man's alternative to the 12mm Oly :)
