Can the Isco be re-housed?

So if you could push the focusing element out another inch or so, you would be able to focus closer right? It would have to be bigger glass but does anyone know what type of element that would be on the end? Plano concave?
 
I would use an achromatic diopter in front and not try that. Would it be that easy, ISCO would have added a few more turns to the helicoid to allow for closer focussing - I'm pretty sure the lens designers knew exactly what they did there
