Can the hvx format a DVD?

I was shopping for a portable hard drive and saw some external dvd burners.
By any chance can the HVX format a dvd like it does with a hdd?

Just got to thinking about using 8gig dl dvds or even better 25gig bluerays

Nope. The HVX can talk to SBP2-compliant Firewire drives, but not DVD drives.
