GH2 Can the GH2 do Night Sky Timelapses like this?

GH1 and GH2? It would be nice to see some low light comparisons. I have a GH1 but I'm thinking of getting a GH2. I guess my GH1 is not one of the bad ones for the FPN (or vertical banding) in low light. I can shoot really underexposed (way below -3 EV) and I see no banding at 100 ISO, but at 200 ISO I already see some banding if it's underexposed at -2 EV or below.

The other type of banding (the moving horizontal banding in the blue channel) I start seeing at 800 ISO but it doesn't start to bother me until 1600 ISO.

Really, I think with these cameras we are nitpicking (what I mean is that if the camera produces a substandard image it is because the scene is not properly exposed and you don't have enough light hitting the sensor.)

The GH2 should be able to do that since the latest firmware makes it equal to the Canon 7D,60D/T3i in low light stills but the GH2 kills all DSLRs in video mode. TImelapse are a series of still images.

The Pentax K-5 should beat the APS-C sensor Canons in timelapse since it has a better sensor for low light high iso.

Very nice work on Homeland. Kudos to the GH2 but it says more about you than the camera.

Thanks a lot Benjobe! Super information to start doing my test. I will do noise reduction in photoshop with topaz and then AE to finish it. Very nice TL, I can´t wait to do mine! Soon GH1 GH2 night TL test!

I think you are right, if you light proper this camares are amazing! Sometimes if you are shooting events, weddings...sometimes you can´t put light. I don´t go over 500 ISO in my GH1, Lpowell 75Mbs/100Mbs because vertical banding ( in low low light situations like bad lighted are into a disco or something very very poor ). I will see my new one GH2 how performes. I got it 4 days and did´t test to much but I see is more superior to GH1 low light.
Next week I will try to match with both cameras and see waht happen.

I was trying to take nigth sky photos today with my gh3...but I'm in a big city...maybe the lights from the city don´t let the camera get good night sky shots as If I was in a small town with not many lights on?
