I think thats the term for it anyway?

Can the DVX do those zooms which basically go from closest to furthest or vice versa, in like half a second. I imagine it means grabbing something on the zoom and just pulling or pushing it as far as it will go real quick?

Anyway, despite my lack of technical phrases im sure you know what i mean

Yes. So long as your hand can rotate the zoom ring 90 degrees in a half second, then yes, you could do that effect. I see it often in Wes Anderson movies..

I personally like this effect. Who else is doing it these days?

Love the snap zooms. They used that effect alot in the recent film *Thirteen*. There was ALOT of handheld shots with snap zooms. It gave it a very *raw* feel.

Yes the DVX can do it, and it's the only prosumer-priced camera that can (because it has a true manual zoom ring that's actually mechanically connected to the lens elements). The next lowest-cost option would be an XL2 with the optional manual lens.

Yes it can! Just set it to Manual and give it a spin... This technique is also very prominent in 70's kung fu movies.

Well if anyone has seen the teaser trailer for the 4th Harry Potter movie, the Goblet of Fire, there is an excellent example of a sNap zoom when it zooms in on Harry and Ron. That movie is going to be awesome...

I believe "Raimivision" is the proper technical term. :-)

There's a really cheesy, eye-rolling example in the second Star Wars prequel, during the battle at the end. CG, of course.
