Please pardon yet another 24PA question, and sorry so long. I've been up for two days troubleshooting output problems and now everything is a blur, including trying to put the pieces of these posts together for my specific situation. I shot my first short and went to output two days ago for a deadline of today, preview must be in DVD or VHS.
Long, very long story short:
Was shot in 24PA, 100B--which I recently found out was my first mistake.
Was told to capture in 23.98 with advanced pulldown for editing, so I did, my second mistake.
The first problem: extremely poor DVD, red, fuzzy, dark.
Then I was told to change all settings to 29.97 where applicable, and to drop frame from NDF, I believe, then copy my sequence to another with the new settings.
Now, after getting advice on changing settings everywhere, the DVD's say disk error, playback not allowed, "dirty disk, among others depending on the player.
My Q's:
1. Can anyone tell me the correct settings in FCP and quicktime for output. (I have changed so many I couldn't say what to reset.) _OR_
2. How to add pull downs back in, I tried but failed. OR
3. can I somehow revert this sequence back to 29.97 for output.

IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN OUTPUT THE 23.98 to a DVD in iDVD from FCP 5? if so, how do I figure out what all the original settings were? I need to sleep!

Sorry I dont use FCP but my question is who told you the above options were a mistake?

Just a thought here so forgive me if it's not welcome . . .

If everything looked good in your time-line but you have a problem with your resulting disc I'd be looking at how you burned your coaster, not the NLE.

Is it possible you created a progressive disc and are trying to play it on a non-compatible player?

YES, in FCP 5 go to Export-> Quicktime conversion -> Quicktime Movie. Go to Options. Choose to make a 23.98 or 29.97 quicktime movie. Save it with your other project files. Open Finder. Open iDVD. Find your new Quicktime in the Finder, and drag it into iDVD. Done.

Does the latest iDVD support 24fps? Check the help menu and do a search for 24fps.

Here's a link with basic info for FCP and DVX:

if you shot 24pa then you shoudl do an advanced pulldown and edit 23.98 just like you did. Thsi was not a mistake and no, you shouldn't be working at 29.97 with this footage.

Now if all you needed/wanted was 24fps look in a standard video format (29.97) then shoot at 24p and don't remove pulldown.
