Can Some Please Explain How AVID Works With HDV and .M2T Files?

Since Avid is releasing 5.5, I want to get it for my Mac. The problem is, I do not know how AVID supports HDV. Does it edit the .m2t stream in its Native format or does it need a wrapper like FCP? Can it capture from the JVC HD100 in 720/30P mode? (I know that AVID is not supporting the 720/24P HDV with this release which is insulting to JVC customers to say the least). At least Apple is showing progress.

HDV is captured over firewire. My understanding is that the video is kept native, but wrapped in MXF like all other Avid media is. You can render the video to DNxHD for an easier workflow and better multi-generation handling by the system.

Last I heard Avid couldn't work at all with the HD100. I'm sure it's coming in the future.
