Can not dump data from P 2

Hi,

I am running out of resources..I hope somebody will understand
whats going on....
I'll start at the beginning:
I bought a hdd 160 gb and a case to dump my data when I am on the road.
After I solved the problem with its own power supply, I tested
the setup and it worked fine.

Before I left Tokyo, I asked a friend who has a mac to convert some P2
clips I put on the drive. He told me, the drive is Window formatted
and for him, in order to put the .mov files back, he has to mac-format
the driveI went home and copid the mov files to my main pc hdd.
Then I went to Shanghai (actually, I am still here). There was no way
for me to dump my full P2 card to the drive! So I went to the
Panasonic
Broadcast Service here and I spent the whole day with their
technicans!
And nobody was able to find a solutiion. This is what we did:
Changed cable, changed camera. Tried-of course all different
settings.Checked the hdd, used an other HVX 200 camera, which has only
USB
output-no problem, But mount it agan to the HVX-the drive is not
regconized.

All Options greyed out except the bottom one (of course-first it shows
"1394 host")

The only time we were able to see the other options enabled (meaning to
say,the hdd was regconized by the csmera) when we formatted the hdd to
mac format!
But then when we tried to use the format function of the camera, an
error message came "error formating hdd"
Of course the 5 volt powersupply is connectet!
I can not think of any way/combination we have not tried! The next day I
went out and bought a new hdd 160gb with an other housing. ..same
banana!
Since both cameras show the same problem, it must be somehow-somewhere
in
the settings!....but where? I really need the P2 card, lucky I have the
firestore but setting it up everytime you go to a shoot and set up the
camera is often time consuming. I do a lot of guerilla type shooting,
so
the P 2 ist the best for it!
Also copying the P2 to the firestore works only very limited!
When I mount it to the camera, the drive showes up, but the copy
function
is greyed out-only the format function works. we even did that, backed
up the data and format the FS 100 with the camera format. what happen
then: 00:00 min remain! That for sure I did not need!
I was suppose to be in Tibet now, shooting the Himalayas, but because
of
this camera trouble, I had to cancel my trip!
But I will go to Beijing day after tomorrow.
Hope somebody will have an additional idea!
Oh yeah, whenn I saw, it can only communicate with Mac Format, I
formated the Hdd low level. After putting FAT 32 on it the same proble,

In case somebody is intrested:
the problem was the power supply which drives the hdd!
In Japan 100 V 1 A was enough to power the hdd, but in China with 220 V the amp were too low to spin the disk. Problem was solved after many many hours of testing amd finally connecting a 3.5 A power supply.

Just in case-same thing should hasppen to somevody else.
