Can Not Access P2 Store Without A Card On It

Hey guys,

I need some help with the p2 store. I have been working with the hvx200 with a p2 store and 2 4 gig cards and a powerbook g4. The work flow is quite nice and I think I will need just one more 8 gig card to get things working faster. The problem is that I have been using the p2 store just to import clips from the card, while the camera can still shooting with the another card. I will need to shoot a situation that I will have just the camera and the p2 store and no computer, so I will offload the clips to the p2 store, but my computer can not find the p2 store when there is no card on it. The manual is much more about pc users and I could not access the clips inside the p2 store in the tests that I am doing.
Could you help??:nads:

Have you done the "mac conversion" to the P2 store? Don't have the link handy but to see the drives on a mac you need to do the following:
have it connected and powered up. your usb light should be green. that indicates windows mode.
Press and hold all the buttons on the top EXCEPT start (that's 3 buttons: battery level, HDD cap and cancel). hold them all down together until the usb light turns orange. now you're in mac mode.
you might have to power down all --or not-- but then all should be good.
but beware: now you will have a separate "no name" drive on your desktop for every partition with data on the p2 store plus any cards in the slot. can make for lots of confusion. in general, it seems with very little experience so far that the "last" icon in the group is the card. it's easier to identify them in disk utility by clicking and looking at the properties. and ejecting one of the partitions of the p2 store will eject the rest.

hope this helps,
kellee

Hi Jabour
Are you running FCP5 on your Powerbook? If so, I think you'll find it much faster to import clips through FCP: File > Import > Panasonic P2 than to import directly. Queenkellee is right that you need to hard-reset the P2 Store to be a Mac-compatbile USB2 device. But you should find FCP finds the P2 store quite readily, whether there is a P2 card inserted or not. I use the P2 store to off-load on location sans computer too, and it works very well.

Just a side note- the P2 store will show up as unreadable if it is empty or has just been formatted. Once you dump a card the P2 store shows up. So if you are in mac mode and can't access the p2 store you may not havesuccessfully dumped your cards.
