Can I use the Zoom Ring in Servo mode (will it break?)

On the DVX100,
i am wondering if it was intended to be able to use the zoom ring when in Servo mode (instead of manual mode)
I have noticed I am able to move it but it is very stiff. Am I going to break it or is it just supposed to take that much pressure? Was it designed for this?
 
No it was not.
