Can I use P2 E cards without firmware upgrade?

HVX200: I read in the Pana broadcast section that some cameras need firmware upgrades before they can use P2 E series cards.

My HVX can use 32GB A series cards, but I´ve heard that someone messed up his HVX after using an E series card.

Are E series cards safe to use with old HVX?
Do I need a firmware upgrade?

Nobody messes up their camera by using E cards. There was one instance of an incredibly coincidental case of timing, but that's what it was -- a coincidence.

Yes you can use "E" cards with any HVX, and no you don't NEED a firmware upgrade, although you'll probably want to do it. There are a couple of things (such as time-lapse or something) that don't work 100% right without the firmware upgrade, so upgrade the firmware and go forward happily with "E" cards.

Can I mix and match E and A cards in the camera without consequence (i.e. have one 16 gB A card and one 64 gB E card at the same time)?

Hi lhryshko,

Yes you can mix and match any version of P2 cards in camera, but as Barry has pointed out, there is a documented camera firmware error that if you are doing special frame rates or continuous loop recording accross multiple cards and one is of type E you can get recording errors unless you are on the latest firmware of 4.10.
