Can I stabilize a tripod easily?

A month ago, I inquired whether this was a good travel tripod

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...V_547BK_701HDV_547BK_Video_Tripod_System.html

I need a tripod for the summer but I wanted to take my time on figuring out which tripod to spend serious money and I figured I'd use this in the meantime. When I ordered it there was a snafu, so i have the chance to make the decision anew. Someone thought there might be a problem since the legs are fairly light and it might not be stable enough. Think that should be a concern for someone who will be doing a lot of run & gun type filming? Are there easy ways to try and further stabilize the legs? I was thinking of perhaps getting a tripod dolly. Is this something I need not worry about?

Thanks!

link didnt work if your tripod has a mid spreader between the legs you can drape a sandbag over it to hellp stabilize the legs more but if its cheap the spreader may not be able to hold the weight of the bag. You dont want to be carrying around a tripod dolly during travels :)

Sandbag over a leg usually works.

Link is/was down cause BH's website is/was down today.

Watch the sandbags though, you don't want to put unnecessary pressure on those thin legs.

But if you start throwing sandbags into the mix, you are no longer "run & gun".

And check into that head, it looks a bit small for the 150.

I've made a water bag from a grocery bag and two 750ml water bottles.

Alternately you could use two bottles of wine. That way you have the requirements for a mini wrap party post shoot. ;)

I like your way of thinking!!

Canadian ingenuity at it's finest. :D

I do find that using a 6 pack of beer in each bag is a tad bulky, but can be done if you use cans (w. plastic rings). Just drape the 6 pack over a leg.
Beer doesn't work as well if you have a crew though. The weight tends to lighten when you are not looking.
