Can I play hvx200 dv tapes on a dvx100 camera?

? I have some footage shot with the hvx200 and was wondering I can playback those tapes on a dvx100 camera?

Actually I couldn't play it back on a minidv cam/handycam. I'm guessing it's because of the 24fps playback on the hvx200. So I figured maybe a dvx100 cam would playback because it supports 24. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't play it back on my minidv cams.

I normally shoot everything on Firestore or p2 so I never had to deal with this problem.

aah, ok that changes the picture, you shot a mode that is native to the HVX, so yes, then on a handycam it won't work, did not think of that, sorry,

not sure how compatible the 24p modes are between the HVX and DVX,

hey no worries, I just wanted to find out here so I can maybe save a trip to getting a dvx camera. If it don't work then I wont have to drive great distance to pick up the dvx and find out that it doesnt work. I would hate to rent an hvx just to capture a single tape.

I don't so why it wouldn't work in a DVX or any other miniDV based camera, it should.

Even if you shot in 24p, the HVX records it as 29.970 fps with a pulldown to meet the miniDV spec.
 
Did you perhaps record in LP mode (instead of SP)? LP mode tapes generally only play back on the machine that recorded them. O/W, as David said, miniDV is miniDV and any miniDV cam should be able to play the tape.
 
24p doesn't matter, it still records it in the DV-standard 60i data stream. So yes, any tape recorded on an HVX should play back in any other DV camcorder.

Dick Campbell probably has it best though, an incompatibility could come about if it was LP mode.
