can i only do one screw for the mic holder?

I'm screwing in the mic holder that attaches to the camera holder. It seems like i can only fit one of the two holes on the piece up to one of the two open spaces on the camera that can take the screw. So, it seems like it can take two screws, but in reality, you can only do one. Am I right? I'm guessing I'm missing something very obvious, but i can't figure out what.
 
I don't have the cam in front of me but maybe you should turn the mic holder over and check to see if you're putting it on upside down. My holes fit just right.

Yes the mic holder fits just fine with both screws… hope this helps.

I must have gotten the wrong part with the camera. Bummer. I bought it two months ago. Here's hoping I can get the right part sent for free. I'm skeptical I'll have such luck.
 
I hate to ask this, but I presume that you're not trying to attach the microphone clam-shell holder directly to the camera? There is a short riser bracket the attaches to the camera, and the mic holder screws into that, as illustrated in the picture above.
