Can I Do Something Like This In Motion

What I'd use is a 3D program like Cinema4D or Blender to build the element and the camera move. Then export.

Now, there is a 3D plugin for After Effects called Zackwerks or something that will do this too. But it works as a mini-3D app inside AE. As of yet, Motion does not have 3D building tools. Maybe next version?? We could hope.

Now, before people start saying wait wait wait... yes, Motion has an extrude function... but it is useless to get those kinds of effects.

Take the 3D-ness out of the equation and just use 2.5D graphic and a nice camera move? YUP! Motion can do that... Motion 3, anyway.

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out how to do something similar to the clip below. Anyone know what program they might've used for this? Wondering if Motion can pull something like this off.

Here's the Text Effect Video

That is real easy to do with any 3D animation program. It will render supper fast because the texture is real plain as opposed to chrome or glass.

I can do that animation for you if you really need it although I think it is rather boring.

I think it's pretty cool, anyone know where some good tutorials for this sort of effect are?

Above is a link to my old demo reel. I used Carrara to do the 3D animation. Carrara is pretty cheap and can do what you want real easy. What software do you plan on using? Like i said I think the effect is real boring but if you get Carrara I gues I could make a tutorial for you. .

Them some fighting words!

LOL.

The graphic is very effective. I agree with Mench. Simple is better more often than not. I think a couple of hours with a 3D software and you could produce a similar animation.

Yes you can do this in motion. Build your background shape and your text in Photoshop, or whatever your logo is. Each layer should be flattened/rasterized but keep the layers separate.
Take PSD into Motion and drop in as layers. Extrude the layers as needed to give them thickness and do your camera moves, etc for the whole spinnny thing...

As good as Maya, 3DS Max, etc? No. Something LIKE it in Motion? Yes.

And the best free sample I can think of is the Motion tutorial with the Suzuki logo - right on the Apple site.

Make sense?
