Can I ask a favor?

Hey guys,

I've had my HMC150 for a few weeks now, and I'm still weary on the noise this camera is producing, McFluffy seemed to have the same problem and panasonic said there was alot of excess chroma noise, so I may send my camera in to get checked out, because this is giving alot more video noise than my hv20,

Its in 720/24p and I've tried every scene file, and they all are producing the same noise issues.

So my question to those that own the HMC150... could you by any chance just send me a small 10-15 second clip static shot, of a room, light and dark, outside light and dark?

If you could send me the .mts file straight from the camera via:

http://www.yousendit.com/

to reduxen (@) gmail.com

It'll take maybe 5 minutes to do, i just want to see if im just not used to the noise from HD maybe its my eyes that are deceiveing me..

Thanks Guys,

Zac

I suggest that you make a start and put some clips online first. So far you only have posted some still images. It's hard to guess from an image what's really going on.

Get outside in bright daylight and make some shots. Make sure automatic gain control is switched off.

Do not expect this camera to produce nice clean pictures in dark rooms with only a single light source.

Yeah, i do realize this (though that shot i uploaded was with about 1500w's of light hitting my actor)

I just shot some stuff, with alot of light, and with a little less, I'll upload it to youtube, since I've already uploaded my HD video of the week on vimeo... (damn them)

First of all, that picture you posted, I can't understand why it was so dark when there was so much light. Secondly, don't upload stuff to vimeo or youtube. Upload raw .mts files and if possible shoot in progressive mode.

Alright,

Thanks for the help, now where am i going to upload the raw mts? I unfortunately don't have a sever of anywhere to upload it to,

all this footage was shot in 720p 24

Zacatac, how did you go?

There is another thread here (the Mr Fluffy one) that has a lot of basic information about exposure. You may simply have underexposed your footage, and that will make the image noisy.

And saying this is not to say that you should not be shooting high-contrast scenes (with lots of black)—just that the *exposed* parts need to be accurately exposed. hth, kl
