hey guys
i have a guy doing a soundtrack for my film. he is using garageband and the files he is sending me is mp3 only. that is fine for our emails since the file sizes are so small but once we get in agreement on the music i'd like something in a more "lossless" or higher quality format (like AIF). i don't use garageband at all, but could someone tell me how to tell him how to do this?
I appreciate it.
thanks

Have you actually discussed this with him directly?

I haven't used GB in a while, but my recollection is that it can export to any file format. Also, it does not record in MP3 format. My guess is that he's making MP3 files to be email-friendly while he sends proofs. The best thing to do is to set up an FTP site to transfer larger AIFF or WAV files, or have him burn the files to a CD or DVD and send them to you, when you're ready for the final music.

As with the previous poster I have not used GB in a long time either, but I do remember not being able to export above 44.1khz and 16 bit IE CD quality.

Just opened it up and the only way appears to be to burn a CD. You might just have it do an AAC version and convert that. It used to do uncompressed out put.....

Pretty easy to do it. (Just checked this in iLife 11, and it was the same in 09 and even 08 too, as far as I remember)

Go to the Share menu, and then select "Export song to disc". In the box that pops up asking for how to export it, just uncheck "Compress", and it'll spit out an AIFF. You don't have any controls over sample rates and all, but it'll be AIFF.
