for the gh2 (and all other models i guess) in video recording , there is a 30 minutes limit in Europe (due to tax regultions) but not on the american models so is it possible to reflash the firmware of a europen model with a usa firmware of the same camera in order to get rid of the 30 min max limitation ?

if it is possible, where can we download usa firmwares for panasonic cameras ?

thanks.

AFAIK there are no publicly available firmware for GH2. Taking a cue from GH1, if Vitaliy succeeds in hacking the GH2, then it should be possible to switch between NTSC and PAL and remove the 30 mins restriction amongst other benefits. Check the hack subforum here as well as Vitaliy's web site for details.

so does the gh1 hack "gh13" on a gh1 bought in europe includes the removal of the 30min maximum reccording limit ?

Anything's possible- my only question is those weird recording time limitations built into Europe models. Wonder if the engineers made some changes to the hardware to make this impossible.

The region code is indeed configured in another memory, which is not affected by the firmware upgrade. At least this is the case with GH1 and documented in the service manual.
The region code controls the language set for the menus and NTSC/PAL setting in addition to the 30 min recording limit for EU.
The GH1 hack was able to override those settings as needed.
For the GH cameras there are no different versions of firmware. The firmaware contains all languages.
Only cameras that have different names in differen regions have corresponding versions of firmware. A good example is ZS3 and TZ7. I bought the ZS3 and applied to it firmware for TZ7.
The update worked fine, except the EXIF data in the JPG file now says that my camera is TZ7.
