Can Audio recording be turned off?

I hate having to mute my timelines when editing. Either in the menus or via the ptools, can the audio recording be turned off or muted?

can you not just drag the footage and not the audio into timeline? I do it all the time in premiere or are you talking about something else?

Not entirely sure why you want to - but anything plugged into the external mic jack will cut out the camera microphone.

As panasonic insist on using a daft 2.5mm jack, you need a 2.5m > 3.5mm adaptor to use popular external budget mics with, anyway - so just plugging in the adaptor, but not connecting the external mic will have the desired effect of silence ;)

I never use the onboard sound. And when I look at what I shot say with Splash Pro or any player, its just annoying to hear the traffic sound etc. Yes I can put the volume down, but it would be nice to have zero audio track. I guess the 2.5mm plug is an option, but I'd rather not have anything sticking out that could damage the plug or camera if it gets banged on something. It would ba a nice option for the Hack to have record volume at zero.

Remote control plugged into the mic/remote jack does not cut out the internal microphone !

Good point (I've never used the RC, but I certainly take your word for it)

As the RC would also need to use the 2.5 > 3.5 adaptor (which does cut off the mic) , that little socket is obviously cleverer than I thought :cheesy:

Actually one of the little touches that i liked about the GH1 was the warning message that pops up when you plug in an external mic , telling you to ensure that your mic is switched on - using something like a Sennheiser MKE300, which has no continuous power LED, it's really easy to forget to switch it on, and end up with no sound.
